Customer Reviews — [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-11-02 Summary: Amazing Spelling Program ... I homeschool and have been through many spelling programs that don't give much practice. This program is a wonderful find that incorporates a reading section with spelling words, practice activities, a written passage to correct (with proofreading marks taught along the way), and a writing prompt. I currently use this for my 3rd grader who is a bit advanced in spelling. She never complains about spelling lessons, and gets 100% on all 20 words each week. I can't praise this series enough! ...more
[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-01-21 Summary: Nice spelling book ... This is a traditional spelling book. There is a list of words for the lesson and worksheets to reinforce the spelling rules. There's reviews so that past lessons aren't forgotten. I bought this book because I like the other levels in the series. This books fill the need for spelling. I'm still looking for spelling books that are a little more challenging, but until then I'm happy with Spelling Workout. ...more

It incorporates a fun reading section, introduction to the subject and several ways to learn the specifics within each 4 page lesson. Each chapter has exercises to hammer the words home that are, for the most part, somewhat fun, and not too long. Can easily do 15 min a day of spelling and have one test a week. Perfect! ...more
[4] Rating: 5 Date: 2007-12-09 Summary: I really like this. ... I am homeschooling my daughter through middle school. We are in the middle of 7th grade. I really like this spelling program. It is mainly self-directed and includes vocabulary work. My daughter works through it and learns quickly because of its structure. She also actually likes the lesson lead-in stories! (I emphasize this because she's a discerning reader and at first fussed about reading something so simple.) I find I didn't use my teachers edition at all and bought just the student guide for 7th grade. ...more

I have used several spelling curriculums, and like this and Spelling Power the best because they start with a basic spelling rule and group similar words together.
