Summary: Learn the steps, have fun
... I'm in good shape, but I'm just a mediocre dancer, and I had to spend an extra hour or so, to get some of the steps in my body first before doing the routines correctly. But after I spent the time feeling out the steps and the transitions, I had a great time doing this video. It's an ok workout, and it's fun when you get in the groove.

Summary: Classic Petra Kolber
... Although this is not my favorite video of hers, if you are a Petra Kolber fan this is definitely a must have for your collection. It is a 50 minute dance based workout with a real rhythmic beat (hence the name of the video). The dance steps are fairly easy to learn and I don't feel like I am exercising because of the routines. The cueing and cast are great-it is nice to see some young men in this video enjoying the workout. You do need a fair amount of room to do this workout though so you may need to improvise a bit.

After you learn the 3 dance segments, you have the option of a last segment that combines all 3 dances. The DVD motto is "3 moves and you're dancing" but I don't really think the 3 movements you learn in the warm-up are really a part of the dance moves presented later. Although getting the cues down is tricky at first, as with all of her other DVDs they come easily with practice. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the format. In order to do the whole routine you have to go back to the chapters and select which one you want to do. That takes time and a loss of concentration. Even when you have done all 3 dance chapters and you want to do them from the top, you have to go back to the chapter menu and select that option. ...more

Petra Kolber has demonstrated 3 levels of intensity: with her as the least intense and the 2 back ups as medium and hard respectively. If you are an apartment dweller, this is not recommended because she uses floor space: grapevines, wide strides. I have a personal issues with her old fashioned perkiness. I use her work-out if I want a break from my favorites. I tend to use the DVD more often for the bonus John Baptiste 1o minute tune up yoga. She is easy to follow, encouraging and positive, but not annoying. The program definitely gives you a good workout - and you can vary how intense you want to go.
